Each year the Kiwanis Club
generously presents an award in memory of Donald Brown who worked as
Treasurer in the Kiwanis Club and also served
as President of the curling club. Don passed away in 2003 and his memory lives on with this award.
Eligibility
Any registered member of the curling club who is currently attending an educational institution is eligible to be considered for this award. The award is for recognition of a junior curling member who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer involvement with the Land O' Lakes Curling Club. This can include teaching activities, leadership roles in the club or in teams representing the club, and general volunteer activites and committment to the club.
Nominations
Individuals are nominated using a one-page nomination letter that must be submitted by March 15th to the President of the Kiwanis Club. Nominations may be made by any member in good standing of the Land O' Lakes Curling Club or a member in good standing of the Tweed Kiwanis club. One award will be available each year and will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Curling Club.
2008-09 Recipient of the Don Brown Memorial Award ($300.)
It is with pleasure that the Kiwanis Club announced that this year's recipient is Zach Fradette, a grade 11 student at Quinte Secondary School in Belleville. Zach has been curling at our club for the past two seasons and also curls on his school team. Zach has been a great help this year in working on many of the renovations in the kitchen, including lowering the counter, helping to tile the floor and installing new cupboard doors. He has also helped out with the painting of the front entrance as well as installing new light fixtures in the viewing area. He never hesitates to assist whenever asked.
The attached photo shows Al McNeil, President of the Kiwanis presenting the award to Zach, along with Jim Carmichael, President of the curling club on the right and David Brant, Zach's stepfather on the far left.
Congratulations Zach and thanks to the Kiwanis Club for their generosity in recognizing Zach for his accomplishments and honouring Donald Brown.
