In 1965 the themes of volunteerism, community spirit and fun began to flourish at the Land O' Lakes Curling Club. Even at the time of it's induction curling was a hit in Tweed, with over one hundred members in the first year. Under the direction of the first executive lead by president Ev English curling was brought to Tweed. Members were able to make use of rented rocks and arena ice each week on Sunday and Monday. At this point in time the curling stones were transported to and from Marmora on a weekly basis. Members only had to pay a nominal membership fee of $5.00 and a $1.00 game levy. In the following years of 1965 to 1967 under the leadership of Sanford Wilson curling stones were purchased which are still being used today. This was the first major step in the direction of a permanent club. |
| The next step was under the guidance of President Don Chisholm (1967 - 1969), when it was decided that a new facility was to be built. The building cost $75 000 and opened in 1969. A good portion of the work was done by the members volunteering. The new facility started the tradition of great curling in Tweed which is still a fixture in the community. Most of the organization and work completed at the club can be credited to the hard work of our members. The Land O' Lakes Curling Club is still fostering high quality curlers and the spirit of curling. Come Join the Fun at the Land O' Lakes Curling Club! | |
